New Years Goals

It’s never too early to start talking about goals for the New Year — especially since it’s only seventeen days away. I love celebrating the New Year because to me it symbolizes a fresh start. My husband and I always like to sit down and discuss goals for ourselves for the year and I love doing this because it allows us to focus on the things we want to accomplish, and it also helps us to hold each other accountable. Then, at the end of each year, we like to sit down again and discuss how we think our goals went. Did we accomplish what we set out to accomplish? What can we continue to work on next year? It’s fun and it’s a great way to create a visual for the new year. So, in addition to talking with my husband, I figured I’d share my goals here with you. What are my goals for 2023? I’m so glad you asked! Let’s get into it.

Goal #1: Read 50 books.

In January of 2022, I decided I would read 30 books. It was a fun challenge, especially since I just started getting back into reading towards the end of 2021. In 2023, I’ve decided to up my book count from 30 to 50. This will include good old-fashioned books as well as audiobooks because I like to listen to them when I drive or walk sometimes. I reached my goal of 30 books in November of 2022, so I definitely have my work cut out for me in 2023, but I’m up to the challenge.

Goal #2: Quit smoking.

My husband and I have tried to quit smoking several times this year, but it just hasn’t happened yet. With the end of the year upon us, we are reevaluating our health and wellness and have finally made the decision to give up smoking in 2023. Why not sooner you ask? We have family visiting us over the holidays and they also smoke. Since we’ll be out enjoying festivities, we figured it would be easier to just give them up in the new year. Fresh start and all, you know?

Goal #3: Lose 60 pounds — at least.

My weight has been a hot topic of discussion for me for what seems my whole life. I’ve been successful with weight loss at times, but I typically find myself back in a cycle of binge eating and weight gain. I’ve talked previously about how I don’t want to diet anymore and that’s true, however, I’ve decided to join Weight Watchers. Now hang on, I know I’m losing some of you, let me explain. I used to think WW was bad and that it promoted unhealthy eating. I’ve done more research and started following the program again and what I’m finding this time around is that it is actually promoting a healthy lifestyle. The program encourages you to make healthier choices on a daily basis, but it also allows you to incorporate your favorite food into your day-to-day life without guilt or shame. For someone who has built up so much guilt and shame around food, this is ideal. I don’t view WW as a diet anymore but more of a lifestyle adjustment. So, when I say I’m not dieting anymore, I still stand by that. I’m making lifestyle changes and hopefully that will aid me on my quest to lose some of these pounds.

Goal #4: Move my body every day.

In 2022, I went through spurts of exercising consistently and then there were times where I did nothing at all. Let me tell you something, no matter what my weight has been, I always feel better when I move my body. It’s like we were made to move or something. (Jokes) In 2023, my goal is to get some kind of movement every day. That should be easy since we have a dog, and he needs to be walked daily. I’d also like to incorporate more cycling, longer walks, and hopefully get back to the gym to pump some iron.

Goal #5: Finances

This last goal is really important to me, but I want to become better with managing money. Right now, my spending habits are horrendous. I want to be someone who focuses on spending within a budget and saving money for the future. If you have any tips on how to do this, please help a girl out!

So, what do we think? Is having five goals too many? Do you set goals for yourself? If not, I challenge you to try setting some for yourself. The fun part is that at the end of the year, you can sit down and see how much you’ve grown. What areas did you thrive in and what areas did you find to be more challenging? I’d love to hear what your goals are! So, if you’d like to, share some down below or let me know over on my Instagram @thymeandwhimsy.

Until next week!

March Favorites 2024

Without further ado, I bring you my top items in the following categories for the month of March: books, makeup, skincare, food/drinks, miscellaneous, and shower things. Let's get to it, shall we? Book: The Coworker by Freida McFadden Oddly enough, one of my sixth-grade students recommended this book to me. Suffice to say, she's well-read for her age. This book had me hooked from chapter one. I'm not normally one for thrillers or suspense in stories, in fact, I typically enjoy books on the opposite end of the spectrum. My cup of tea would be of the YA and romance genre, mainly because I'm a big wimp; however, this book may have converted me.  Dawn Schiff is the reliable employee. She shows up to work on time every day and takes her breaks at regularly scheduled times. Like clockwork, her coworkers know where she is at any given moment. Natalie Farrell is Dawn's coworker and desk mate. Natalie is described as the beautiful and popular employee in the office. She is e...

Holiday Gift Guide 2022

When the three wise men brought gifts for the baby Jesus, I honestly don’t think they had a clue as to what traditions they started for Christmas nowadays. I use this reference lightly, as I’m not hugely religious, however, it provides a good analogy to the simplicity of what Christmas once was — a time to spend with loved ones. I like to believe that the gifts were merely a token, a fraction of what these wise men could give to the son of God. But, I digress.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I love to shop! (Especially for myself…) But shopping for others, now that is hard work. People can be so particular and you certainly don’t want to offend anyone with a well-intentioned gift. What was once a simple token of affection is now almost a sport. I play into it every year simply because I love the holidays. And whether the wise men had envisioned our modern traditions is besides the point. We do it because we love our family members and want to show them so through the gifts we buy them. I...

November Favorites

With the end of another month comes another segment of my monthly favorites. I enjoy watching monthly favorites videos because they always inspire me to try something new. I also just enjoy seeing what people gravitate to. So, without further ado, here are some of my favorite things for the month of November. Book: Verity by Colleen Hoover My book of the month for November (which will come out in December due to this month’s Thanksgiving post) is Verity by Colleen Hoover. I won’t share too many details here because I’ll be sharing them next week, but I will say that this book had me reading on the edge for the entire 336 pages. It’s a different beat than what Hoover typically writes – romance, but she truly mastered the thriller genre. Be sure to come back next week for an in-depth review on Verity or just go buy the book now because you won’t regret it. Verity - By Colleen Hoover : Target Makeup item: L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara I have a lot of mascara in my make-up drawer. And I’m ...
