Why do I “run” so slow? Well I’m new at this whole “running” thing and I use that term very lightly. I’ve been wogging on and off for a few years and I never stick with it. But this time I’m doing something to hold myself accountable. I signed up for a virtual 5k.
A 5 kilometer race is 3.1 miles. I had a bit of a shock when I Googled that. I originally thought it was 2.5 miles. In the grand scheme of things, an extra half mile doesn’t seem that bad; however, when you’re struggling to keep any sort of pace, every little bit counts.
The 5k is for Mental Health and it is taking place on Saturday, May 11th. If you sign up to run, you can also run at the location which I believe is Eleanor Tinsley Park. I’ll share a link to this over on Instagram. I chose this particular 5k because Mental Health is very important to me. I can share more about my personal experience in a future post someday.
In an effort to lace up my sneakers and hit the ground running, so to speak, I’ve looked at two amazing women for inspiration.
First up is my favorite Peloton instructor, Robin Arzon. If you don’t know who Robin Arzon is please do yourself a favor and follow her on Instagram. She wrote a book called Shut Up and Run: How to Get Up, Lace Up, and Sweat with Swagger. I literally just purchased this book from Amazon. She is a strong woman and very inspiring. She was an attorney with no fitness experience and one day decided to start running. Now, she’s the lead instructor at Peloton, a 27 time marathoner, among many other incredible accomplishments. You see, one of Robin’s mantra’s is “Shut Up and Run” and that inspired her to write this book. I’m excited to read it and hope it gives me some insight into the world of running, or my case, wogging, how I can overcome mental barriers, and “sweat with swagger.”
Another inspiration of mine is an old friend, Julie, or Jules. I adore this amazing woman. I met her when I used to cycle at Rush, a group fitness cycling studio. She was one of the many amazing instructors there. Our Rush days might be in the past, but we both still cycle. Now, she teaches an incredible dance party on a bike at Lifetime Fitness, and I, as you know, ride my Peloton. Julie is a wife, mama, and also a runner. She runs miles and miles and shares about it on her Instagram each week. I hope she knows how much of an inspiration she is to me.
I’m not perfect. I struggle a lot with my relationship with health, diet, exercise, and my body. Something I’m starting to learn as I exercise more consistently is that my body is incredible. It does so much for me that I take for granted daily. My hope is that as I progress on this journey, I will stop being so hard on myself and continue to appreciate all the things this vessel does for me.
Are you a runner? Or do you walk/jog like me? Let me know down below or over on Instagram. Until next week!
Thank you. Your blog and Instagram do inspire me. But any advice for a person who works full time from home? All I have is a ballet bar. I am thinking about getting a walking pad. Have you ever thought about doing a youtube video of your journey? Keep up the great work😁
